About the Museum

We’re celebrating our 50th anniversary starting in April 2025. It will be a year-long celebration, so check out our 50th anniversary page to see what’s in store from April 2025 through April 2026.

We’re still here! Founded in 1975 as the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library, Inc., the museum did business as the Museum of Our National Heritage from 1975 to 2002. From 2002 to 2009 the museum did business as National Heritage Museum. Since 2010, we have done business under our incorporated name, Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library. The museum is a privately non-profit organization, founded and supported by Scottish Rite Freemasons of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.

Established in 1975 by the Scottish Rite Freemasons of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, the museum has a close relationship with this branch of Freemasonry. Interested in learning more about Scottish Rite Freemasonry? Check out the Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction website.

We encourage potential researchers to search our online catalogs, read more about the Library & Archives collections, or contact Library & Archives staff to see whether we have material relevant to their research. Library & Archives staff can suggest approaches, sources, and can often answer basic reference questions. In-depth questions often require an on-site visit.

Because many of our collections are rare, fragile, and irreplaceable, we have established policies and procedures to ensure that they will be both accessible to current researchers and available for research for future generations. Learn more about research in the Library & Archives by visiting the Reference & Research page.
